bi-monthly comic books

I don't love bi-monthly comics.
Ozog posted the news about SCARLET.  The new project from Bendis and Maleev.  I want to be excited, yet it's 6 issues a year, maybe.  The awesome new book S.H.I.E.L.D is also bi-monthly.  So are most of the ULTIMATE  marvel books.  I don't want to whine.  But could you imagine a TV show that only came on once every two months?  How long would it last?  The only argument I can think of is Scott Pilgrim.  We wait almost a year for those books to come out.  But they are well over 100+ pages.  What are your thoughts?

  1. I hate bi-monthly books. I mean, we already wait a month for most titles to come out. I feel as though when waiting 2 months for a book that the reader loses not only the story but possibly interest as well.

An example of a great bi-monthly book is Ultimate X. That book is so good that it makes me sad that it is only bi-monthly.

  2. Scott Pilgrim has very cartoony black and white art (not an insult). So I believe it would take more time to produce a comic like Scarlet
(full color). Plus Jared, I find you comparison of t.v. to comics void because no one would even deal with a monthly show let alone a bi-monthly one. Plus I rather deal with bi-monthly comics than issues constantly being late.

  3. Carl, I heart you, but the TV point isn't void because you're right, no one would deal with a bi-monthly show. I compare it because comic books are MY favorite form of entertainment. So I HAVE to be patient. And kind of get the shaft monthly...or bi monthly. My point is that comics are unimportant sometimes. The readers are kind of unimportant. We don't spend enough money apparently because if the comics industry had more money, we would get faster comics.
Or maybe it's the Diva-ness of artist now a days.
In the early days of Will Eisner, they had 5 guys in a crappy factory busting thier humps making comics for 12 hours a day for pennies.
Just killing page after page of quailty wrok

    Maybe I'm tired.
But I just feel dejected often about the industry. I just feel it could be better. WIth Scarlet, I don't understand. Alex Meleev finished Daredevil out on time monthly no problem. That guy has a great work ethnic. He doen't mess around.
.....this is a long comment...stupid TV...If it's on that stupid electic glowing box, then it must be awesome.
Comics require reading, and reading is work.
    work sucks, yeah?
Comics are a frigging dog on a surf board against a huge 697 foot high wave called TV and movies.
Maybe this is Disney giving Marvel less to work with. Maybe I'm wrong.
    fart.
I am going to regret writing all this in the morning....

  6. When Meleev was working on Daredevil was he working two comics? Because I think he will still be working on N. when Scarlet comes out.

  7. Yeah, I'm almost inclined to blame Bendis on this one simply because he's writing 349587 books at one time. I know Maleev is insane and works 16 hours a day on his stuff. He leaves conventions early so he can get home and meet deadlines. He even goes so far as to send his family to Europe so they don't distract him from his art.

Now that's a method I can get behind!
