Jason Todd – Batman’s one-time sidekick, currently the anti-hero known as Red Hood – has been imprisoned in Arkham Asylum for the past several months. But after a period of good behavior, will a transfer to a lower-security prison mean reformation for Jason Todd . . . or is trouble waiting in the wings for Batman and Robin? Don’t miss “The Streets Run Red” part one of three!

Disney/Pixar's Hawiiian Vacation
Entertainment Weekly released the first pictures from the short "Hawaiian Vacation" starring the crew of Toy Story.   In my opinion, this would be the best part of Cars 2.

Comic Book Artist Mark Brooks' Contribution to the Final Issue of Fantastic 4 #588

Many comic readers picked up the final issue of Fantastic Four #588 this week at their local comic shop. I personally just finished the issue myself, and it was a truly touching and depressing issue, yet at the same time it was powerful. I attribute this largely to the secondary story featured in the issue written by Jonathan Hickman and beautifully illustrated by artist Mark Brooks.

Mark Brooks is a artist that I think is over looked by the comic world and really deserves more credit that he probably receives. I thought that his work in the story "Uncles" in issue #588 was some of the best work I've seen from him, and it made me wish that he did a lot more than he actually does. Hopefully others thought the same thing, and he will soon have a monthly title, or at least a new mini or maxi series.

New Dark Horse Ad...with a cat!

A Death in the Family: R.I.P Dwayne McDuffie, Comic Artist

Tom Bondurant posted a great and touching piece on Mr. McDuffie over at Robot 6.
It really pays repect to a man that was a great writer, a pioneer with the Milestone comic line, and somebody that didn't take "editorial suggestions" very well.

HBO's True Blood: Tainted Love #1 Comic Review

This is the second series from publisher IDW based on HBO’s hit TV show, True Blood. The story mainly follows the vampire Jessica as she leads her life as the newest Vampire in Bon Temps. Although the issue mainly follows Jessica that does not mean that the story lacks the appearances of any of the other True Blood favorites. In the issue, Jessica’s boyfriend Hoyt is trying to alleviate the initial difficultly of Jessica being a vampire by throwing her a prom at the local restaurant Merlots, but this isn’t the true story of the issue, there is an underlying problem that is sweeping across the south concerning vampires.

Gotham City Sirens #20 Comic Review

In this new arc of DC comic’s series Gotham City Sirens the reader encounters the character Harley Quinn breaking into Gotham’s infamous institution, Arkham Asylum to confront the love of her life; The Joker.

This issue ties nicely into the Batman universe, since the Joker has returned and is recapturing the role of not only Batman’s but also Gotham’s most prominent villain.

Super quick Video Game Review: Marvel vs. Capcom 3

Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 is a not quite balance 2d fighter. Every characters feel and play different. Although lack many of the features that it predecessor, Super Street Fighter IV, has it is still an unique and fun game. Online can really be hampered by lag. Overall if you liked Marvel Comics or Capcom characters, MVC3 is definitely worth a shot.

Garth Ennis' Jennier Blood #1 Review

Jennifer Blood is the newest work from writer Garth Ennis, the man behind Preacher. The story is about a house woman who leads a double life. One of her lives, she is a loving house wife with a husband and two kids, but the other life she is the leather clad, gun wielding killer, Jennifer Blood.

When it comes to Ennis’ writing there are pros and cons. The biggest pro is that he can create and write a story like no other, mystifying the reader when the story actually reveals the underlying plot. The one thing that is really detrimental to his writing is the fact that he can sometimes be long winded, his writing becoming the focal point of the comic, no relying as heavily on the art to tell the story. When it comes to Jennifer blood, you see both the pros and cons of his writing, but so far in the first issue they have seemed to pan out.

The art of Adriano Batista took awhile to grow on me. I started reading the comic and thought that his art seemed kind of muted, and dull, but as the story progressed and the transitioned from one part of Jennifer’s life to the other, that is when his art began to shine and he really did a great job conveying the story through his art.

Many readers, when they think Garth Ennis they think violence, blood, and profanity. Readers will be disappointed with the book for about the first 6-8 pages, but after that, the true Ennis shines through and the story becomes both violent and gory not only in the art, but in the writing as well, which is no easy feat whatsoever. But lets face it, this is Garth Ennis we are talking about here.

I was happy to learn that Jennifer Blood is only going to be a mini series because the story as it is right now could really only stand as a mini series and I feel would become old fast if it was stretched to become a ongoing. The story so far is interesting and should prove to become better and better as the issues come out, another thing Ennis is great at is leaving the reader wanting more, is that a pro or a con?

Death of Spider-Man Crossover

Marvel’s next huge crossover is finally here the Death of Spiderman. This crossover takes place in the Ultimates universe, and as you can imagine the end result of this story will be the end of one of our favorite superheroes, the Amazing Spider-Man.

This is a six-month cross over event beginning this week and spanning all the way until August. Although it may seem like an extremely long time, Ultimates fan’s will rejoice to know that they will now be able to read some of their favorite titles monthly instead of bi-monthly, which is a definite plus. The crossover involves two titles, Ultimate Spider-Man and a new mini series created for this crossover entitled Ultimate Avengers vs. New Ultimates.

For this crossover, Marvel has enlisted many of its heavy hitters both in writing and art for the two stories involved. Like always, Ultimate Spider-Man is written by fan favorite Brian Michael Bendis, with art done by the team of Sara Pichello, David Lafuente, Lan Medina, and Ed Tadeo, and the best is still to come. Ultimate Avengers vs. New Ultimates is written by the legendary Mark Millar, and penciled by equally as legendary Lenil Yu. Marvel decided to jump-start this cross over with the release of two of the installments this week.
The Death of Spider-Man promotional postcard that was released a few weeks ago solicits that you should read Ultimate Avengers vs. New Ultimates to start off the crossover, but after reading the two, it really doesn’t matter which you read first. So lets start with Ultimate Spider-Man. This issue is a prelude to the Death of Spider-Man cross over. Two storylines are taking place in this issue, which end up intertwining by the end. First off, Spider-Man is being training by Tony Stark in order to become a better super-hero. The second story line that is occurring is that the Black Cat has had a weapon of ultimate power come into her hands. Mysterio is now harassing her, due to the fact that he wants that power for himself and he is willing to do anything to trick her into giving it to him.

X-Men: First Class - First Trailer

I have to say after seeing this I am much more enthused about this film then previously, though that could just be because I love Cuban Missile Crisis angle. Also I think January Jones cast as Emma Frost is great, she plays a wonderful bitch on Mad Men.

Marvel .1 Series: Invicible Iron Man 500.1

Invincible Iron Man 500.1 is the first of Marvels .1 series that they are using to promote readers picking up new series. These issues are places where a reader could easily pick up the gist of what has been going on with the main character of the series since their inception and get a feel of where the story is at, at this point and time.

In this issue we find Tony Stark at an Alcoholic’s Anonymous meeting. He uses this as a forum to tell his life story, tell about how he became Iron man, tell about his encounters as Iron Man, and tell about how everything in his life has meshed together in order to become what it is today.

DC Universe Online; Legends

One of the things that I was worried about when reading this comic was that it was going to be so heavily intertwined into the storyline of the game that I would not be able to understand the storyline and feel alienated while reading the book. Luckily when I finished the book, the story was well rounded and gave ample information for a new reader and didn’t ostracize anyone not playing the game.
