New Wonder Woman T.V. Series

Legion's Adrianne Palicki, is now television's Wonder Woman.

I have never really had any interest in Wonder Woman, the whole invisible jet thing does not do it for me, and from what i am hearing, this new show won't be changing my opinions any time soon.

Just from what you can see from this picture Palicki in the new costume, they are obviously not taking it very seriously. Here is a description of the plot "Slightly goofy comedy-drama about a hotshot buisiness woman, who moonlights as a Superheroine. Packed with girl power pop songs"

Now, i know you are all asking yourselves, "pete-o, my man, why should i give a fart, about why you dont give a fart, about the new Wonder Woman?"

the answer is simple, don't give a fart, but, share what you think about this new Wonder Woman T.V. show. Or just correct my poor grammar, the choice is yours.

Sucker Punch: What did you think?

A few of this blog's contributors, as well as some of its visitors, were pretty excited about Zack Snyder's latest slow-motion extravaganza, Sucker Punch. Now that it's here, what do you think? Were the attractive ladies and low-cut shirts enough? I was going to post a thought-stream of my experience watching it, but I got bored, and it contained spoilers, and though part of me would like to ruin it for people who haven't seen it yet, I think Snyder does a thorough job of that himself.

Thoughts?

For those interested, I have a full, almost snark-free review posted HERE.

Meet the new Lois

It looks like Oscar nominee Amy Adams is the new Lois Lane, a casting decision I am definitely one hundred percent behind.
“Second only to Superman himself, the question of who will play Lois Lane is arguably what fans have been most curious about. So we are excited to announce the casting of Amy Adams, one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today. Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois: smart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful.”
- Director Zack Snyder, Superherohype

Adams joins a cast that includes Henry Cavill as Superman and Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Martha and Jonathan Kent, respectively.

Quick Movie Reviews of Paul & Battle L.A.

Paul is not the best Pegg/Frost film, but it isn't anything to be ashamed of. Sure, not all the jokes hi.t  A lot of the humor is straight references to other sci-fi films. Pegg and Frost are as likable as always. Jason Bateman is surprisingly good as a bad ass man in black. Seth Rogen as the voice of Paul is good as well.  No one is terrible, but I can't help wishing that Edgar Wright directed this.

For a Second opinion: Click Here

Battle: Los Angles is not for everyone. It lacks any emotion connection. When people die I could tell who it was. Also the squad is full of war movies clichés. The dialog ranges from OK to just terrible. Aaron Eckhart does his best to sell it. But the one thing movie does quite well is blow sh*t up. Plus in an round about way it kinda give the movie Signs the finger. If you are going to see this movie I suggest a matinée screening or with a nice large TV with a decent sound system.

The Captain America trailer is here!

I can't claim to know much about Captain America, but I think this looks pretty cool. Thoughts?

Cartoon Network Joins the DC Nation

It was only a matter of time before Warner Brothers and subsequently DC Entertainment firmly allied themselves with the Cartoon Network.  There's a long history of Warners partnering with the cable network to bring many animated projects to the small screen, and last years purchase of Marvel by Disney it was  pretty obvious that the Cartoon Network and Warner Brothers would be looking to cement their relationship in a deal that would create an exclusive alliance.

Hey loyal listeners to the Blogsout show!
If you have listened to the last episode of the podcast, episode 2.75, here is a recap of the important talking points Chris made.

A Pirate's Life For Me

Here's the newest trailer for On Stranger Tides, the latest Pirates of the Caribbean installment. Gone are former franchise mainstays Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley (though I wouldn't entirely rule out cameos...time will tell) and breathing new life into Captain Jack Sparrow's wild and crazy world are Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane, and Oscar Nominated director Rob Marshall (Chicago), with the only returning principal cast member (besides Depp) being the always impeccable Geoffrey Rush. I guess we will find out once and for all, come this May, if the Pirates brand has gone stale, but if all else fails, it's always fun to watch Johnny Depp as Jack and I for one am excited to see McShane as Blackbeard.

Clive Barkers Hellraiser #1 Comic Review

The comic adaptation of Clive Barkers classic horror movie Hellraiser was more impressive than I originally thought it was going to be. Most of the time that there is an adaptation of a movie, no matter how good the movie is, the reader is disappointed, but Boom really has a good book on their hands, both well written and illustrated.

The book starts off with the classic Hellraiser story line, someone has found the box and Pinhead and his minions have come to claim their lives with a beautifully gruesome death, which is illustrated in this book by Leonardo Manco. The story continues, focusing more on Pinhead himself as he seeks out a new experience in his life, becoming mortal. It will be interesting to see how this endeavor pans out, and how the life of Kirsty Cotton will play a role in it.

If she is trying to redeem herself after her awful performance at the Superbowl, it's not working.

The Return of CrossGen continues with Ruse #1

Ruse is the second title to be released by Marvel’s recently resurrected CrossGen publishing. It is a miniseries about the world’s greatest detective, and his partner/assistant and how they solve the crimes that plague the streets of England.

The first thing that is noticeable about this series is that it is strangely familiar, as if a series that chronicles the events of a great detective and his partner already existed. Does Sherlock Holmes ring a bell? Ruse is highly unoriginal, and it is as if the creator of the series took almost every aspect of Holmes and created the character Simon Archard.

Russian X-Men: First Class Trailer

Russia's trailer for X-Men: First Class was released a few days ago and, while similar to the U.S. teaser, has some cool new clips (including a shot-for-shot callback to Magneto's origin as portrayed in X1).

Batman vs. The Terrorists?

Has Batman Inc. been infiltrated by a sleeper agent?!

Aasif Mandvi, of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart", has a short fake news bit that I thought may cause some of us here to laugh for a moment. I haven't heard much of Bosch Fawstin's work, but if his independent book ever makes it to publishing, it may be an amusing look into his perhaps slightly paranoid mindset on the war against all things Muslim. Is there a war on being Muslim? I'd better watch some real news for a change.

Take a gander at the link below.

Sigil is the first of Marvel’s new CrossGen line of comics, soon to be followed by The Ruse. Sigil is a miniseries written by writer Mike Carey who is best known for his work on Marvel’s X-Men Legacy and Vertigo’s the Unwritten.

The story follows 16 year old girl Samantha as she struggles with average high school troubles such as bullies and class. But she is unlike other girls her age, she recently developed an interesting birthmark on her chest that has also began to cause out of this world dreams unlike anything anyone could imagine.

Electriflying!

I was in New York last night and happened to walk by the venue where the Spider-Man musical, Turn Off the Dark, is playing and saw this poster for it, which made me burst out laughing.

I'm not sure how reliable Glenn Beck is on critiquing Broadway musicals, but if his comment is accurate, the music is apparently the only thing good about the show. The producers have just fired director Julie Taymor after she refused to make major changes to the production. I don't know if anyone else was excited to see how bad this thing was going to be, but it is being yet again delayed. Boo.

Shut Up, Crime!

Here's the trailer for Super, set for an April 1st release. Supposedly the film is much more violent than the trailer suggests, not that that really makes any difference. All in all, this looks like it could be a lot of fun, plus I like everyone in the cast, but I think it could go either way. Thoughts?

Warlords of Mars #1 Comic Review

Warlord of Mars was originally a science fiction novel by author Edgar Rice Burroughs. It is a story of two warring societies on Mars that have a constant conflict for control of the land and the planet itself. The one thing that could possibly bring together these two nations is the marriage between the princess of one society and the prince of the other

The first thing that a reader will notice about this comic is the plethora of covers that are offered for this first issue, all from noticeable artists such as Art Adams, David Finch, and Greg Land. Aside from the great cover art, the interior art is spectacular as well, illustrated by artist Carlos Rafael.

The Grim Ghost #1 Comic Review and the return of Atlas Comics

The Grim Ghost is one of three series that have debuted from the recently resurrected Atlas Comics, along with Wulf and Phoenix. For those who do not know, Atlas comics was a company in the 1970’s that went out of business leaving its characters and their stories ending with it.

The first thing a reader will notice about this book is its size, and with a low price of 2.99 that is a positive in any comic reader’s book. The book is written by Tony Isabella, best know for creating DC’s Black Lightening and Stephen Susco, most well known for writing the horror movie “The Grudge”. While the Kelley Jones, whom is best known for his work on the Sandman.

Super 8 Trailer

I probably made fun of this in the past, but it actually looks kind of great. I've been watching a lot of old sci-fi kids movies lately, and this actually looks like a return to that kind of style, in the vain of The Explorers, or Flight of the Navigator. Dare I say I'm excited for a J.J. Abrams film? What do you think?

Cool New X-Men: First Class Poster!

What do you get when you take what could have been a boring silhouette and make it really cool by adding the weirdest photograph James McAvoy has ever posed for in a random spot, and removing all traces of his corporeal form, leaving a floating face that is being stabbed in the eyebrow by the lack of silhouette...?

This movie looks pretty cool.

March 6th: Happy Birthday Will Eisner!

BlogsOut.net wishes Will Eisner a Happy Birthday, he would be 94 years old. Google had a nice logo in honor of the famous comic artist on their site. Just think, without Eisner, how would our favorite writers and artists get awards?

Spartacus: Gods of the Arena

Sweat. Sandals. Sex. It's an action-packed trifecta of blood, guts, and gladiators that Spartacus: Blood and Sand perfected during its 2010 first season (check out my review here). It captured audiences attention with a visceral visual flair that embraced its over the top sensibilities, a trait shared by the recently aired Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, a prequel mini-series to Blood and Sand.

The title, interestingly enough, is somewhat misleading, as Spartacus himself (Andy Whitfield) makes no appearance in this series; Gods of the Arena, in fact, was written to bridge the elongated gap between Blood and Sand seasons as Whitfield underwent cancer treatment (eventually leading him to exit the series completely).

This mini-series focuses on the rise of the House of Batiatus, and the construction of the larger arena that we eventually see in Blood and Sand. Returning cast members include John Hannah as Batiatus and Lucy Lawless as his wife Lucretia, both presented in this prequel as somewhat more sympathetic than the power-hungry sociopaths they become, along with Peter Mensah as a pre-Doctore Oenomaus, and Manu Bennet as a pre-champion Crixus.

At the center of the series is newcomer Gannicus, portrayed with a cocky ease by Dustin Clare (pictured below), Batiatus' champion gladiator and claim to fame. Also joining the cast are Marisa Ramirez as Melitta, Lucretia's servant and wife to Oenomaus, and Jaime Murray as the effervescent socialite Gaia, friend (and sometimes lover) of Lucretia. The actors slip comfortably into their characters who, among numerous others, expand the world of Spartacus in a natural manner that serves to inform certain characters' decisions in Blood and Sand.

The no holds barred mentality on all fronts, be it violence, sex, or dialogue, that fans have come to expect from series creator Steven S. DeKnight is very much......

Hoang Nguyen's Carbon Grey #1 Comic Review

Carbon Grey takes place in some sort of alternate reality war torn Germany that just learned their leader the Kaiser has been assassinated. Enter the Sisters Grey. Over many generations there have been the Sisters Grey, three sisters, never more that outlined Germany, one representing strength, grace and wisdom, until now. In the current generation there four though, and that seems to be the key to the death and destruction that is laying waste to present.

Carbon grey is the brainchild of writer and artist Hoang Nguyen, who not only was the head writer and artist but also created the premise of the story and the series itself. In addition to Nguyen there are a number of other writers and artists, but he really is the basis of both.

The story is very complex, and will leave any reader lost and perplexed by the conclusion of the issue. The issue follows the storyline of each Grey Sister as they infiltrate and destroy the world around them. One of the things that makes the stories so complex is that the issue does not yield a connection to each other in the slightest, so it is hard to get a grasp on the story aside from the fact that they are all surrounded by death and destruction.

As for the art, the art is spectacular. It has a classic yet modern feel of Japanese art, and really reminds me of artist Sana Takeda who worked on Marvel’s last Ms. Marvel series. Although there is a lot going on in each panel, Nguyen differentiates its all perfectly, never taking away from even the slightest background piece. The book is loaded with blood, gore, and violence, which coupled with this great art really made the book all that it is. If you don’t dig the story the art is worth the price of the book by itself.

Carbon Grey has a very unique feel to it, even though the story is confusing it is hard to dislike and find fault with it because it gives the impression that as the read more of the series, all of the story lines will come together just perfectly creating a story that is worth the confusing wait. One thing that is always great about checking out titles from Indy companies like Image is that you will always get these more complex storylines as well as great, unique art, which will always keep readers coming back for more.

Fantastic In-depth Comic Article

Aspiring writer & blogger John Lees has put together a startlingly in-depth analysis of quite possibly my favorite title out now, Scalped, and its mastermind, Jason Aaron.

It begins with an analysis of the 3rd Scalped trade, Dead Mothers, and continues on to discuss Ghost Rider, Punishermax, and even Wolverine.

It has many a spoiler included in its comprehensive text, but it is also incredibly insightful and definitely worth a read:
