Gotham City Sirens #20 Comic Review

In this new arc of DC comic’s series Gotham City Sirens the reader encounters the character Harley Quinn breaking into Gotham’s infamous institution, Arkham Asylum to confront the love of her life; The Joker.

This issue ties nicely into the Batman universe, since the Joker has returned and is recapturing the role of not only Batman’s but also Gotham’s most prominent villain.

The writing of Peter Calloway in this issue is spectacular. In the story he uses Harley as not only the main character for the story, but as the narrator for the entire issue, describing the workings of many of the other character’s minds.

I admire the art of Andre Guinaldo and Ramon Bach. I always believe that two artists working on the same book can sometimes really cripple the issue as a whole, as especially when the seams can be seen between the two different art styles. With Gotham City Sirens though, the art really is seamless and free flowing working with each other and making it seem as if there was a singular artist on the issue.

One of the main aspects of this issue that makes its so appealing to the eye is the awesome cover art of Guillem March. March does a great job of capturing a classic joker feel with the cover, while adding an extra sinister twist to it, but using muted bright colors with a white background, which really makes the cover explode.

This series has been consistently impressive since its inception, and it doesn’t look as if that is going to stop anytime soon. This new arc is extremely interesting and looks like should showcase classic Harley Quinn and Joker interactions, as well as appearance from other notable Batman characters. No comic reader will be disappointed with this issue.
