Batman: The Return

The time that so many Batman fans have been waiting for has finally arrived, Bruce Wayne is back and he is ready to not only reform the criminal underworld in Gotham City, he is ready to reform the world. The issue entitled “Planet Gotham”, which is all too fitting, begins with a metaphor which describes the endeavor that Wayne plans on embarking on in the newest series Batman Incorporated, which is the subsequent issue to Batman: The Return.

Fans who have been waiting patiently, reading The Return of Bruce Wayne as it slowly by surely came out, and I can assure all of you that the wait does not come without compensation. From start to finish, his book keeps the reader on their toes. It sets up the storyline that all fans have been waiting for, and it is also coupled with plenty of action to feed the need of any Batman fanatic. The book also answers a plethora of questions that have been floating around since the announcement of Bruce Wayne’s return in regards to what will be happening to a number of characters in the Batman Universe. All this and more is answered in this issue.

DC did not cut any corners when recruiting talent for this issue. It is written by comic legends Grant Morrison, and penciled by the great David Finch. The writing in the book is nothing less than what is expected from Morrison. Great dialogue, coupled with outstanding story telling ability. He has a way of conveying the feeling of no just the characters, but everything on the page which enhances the book in a way that few authors can do. I feel as thought that Morrison is the only author who could have made this issue as successful as it was, but he could not have done so well without the help of artist David Finch. Finch, unlike many others has a way of darkening up and bringing out the inner pain and anguish in his art, something that is undoubtedly suiting for the Dark Knight and crew and is something that is nearly indescribable.

This book is worth its price, and without it a fan will miss too many key facts to what is going to be happening in the Batman Universe in the coming year. If you pick up this comic you will not be disappointed.

9.5 out of 10
