Amazing Spider-Man #647

When I first picked up this issue of Spider-Man I had to take a look at it a few times because it is simply HUGE. I usually am deterred from a book when it has a $4.99 price tag, but when it is this large I really don’t mind paying the extra buck or two. I mean you pay for the amount of content right?

Anyways, I have been reading Amazing Spider-Man on a monthly basis for roughly 120 issues now, and for awhile it was a pretty weak book, but I still stuck with it because of my Spidy Fandom. In the past few months though, since the Kraven’s Last Hunt arc, the book has been no less than spectacular and has been worth every cent! The book has just wrapped up the last issue of the whole Brand New Day arc that started 102 issues ago and I feel as though issue 647 was created to allow for new readers to jump on easily and get into the great storyline that has been going on in the series for a new months now.

This issue features a story that last about half the issue, and then four smaller stories to supplement it. One of

the great things about the issue is that every member of the Spider-man brain trust is a part of this oversized issue, and it is really great to see the contrast between the different authors, it is also cool to see all of the different art styles that are featured in this single issue.

This issue had a feel to it that was similar to issue 600, which was a nice end an era kind of feel to it, that allowed for a conclusion to everything that was going on pre-issue, and focusing on the new and exciting story that was about to begin. This is why I say that this issue is a great jumping on point for readers who have been weary of the title, either because so much has been going on or they felt as though they couldn’t assimilate into the story due to the high issue number. I know another big reason as to why a lot of people have steered clear of this series is because of the fact that it comes out three times a month, and that is a lot of money when you add it all up. With this issue, it has been announced that Spider-Man will only be coming out two times a month now, which will hopefully draw more people in. I think it is a great marketing stand point, but I will miss getting to read one of my favorite books three times a month.
Overall, this was a great issue, it was nice to see everything that has been going on this past year in Spider-Man come to a conclusion, with lots of laughs, action, and fun. The shorter supplemental stories that were included were very entertaining and fun as well. It was a solid issue for its price, and it is a nice introduction to the big story that is going to start next week in the Spider-Man universe. If you have not been reading this series, you should start now because you do not know what you have been missing, and if you have wanted to read the series and have been waiting for a jump on point, this is your chance. You will not be disappointed

  1. This issue is a mixed bag. Just like the entire Brand New Day.
