Review: "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" - A fun summer movie?

Michael Bay delivers another summer blockbuster based on the Hasbro line of toys with “Transformers: Dark of the Moon.” The joyous memories I had as a child watching Optimus Prime and Megatron do battle on Saturday morning cartoons were already crushed when “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” was released in the summer of 2009. I’m happy to report that the third installment of the “Transformers” film saga isn’t any worse than its predecessor, though I’d be lying if I said it were much of an improvement.

The story in “Transformers 3” is incoherent, which should come as little surprise considering the plot of last film. It all begins with a spaceship, called “The Arc,” which crashed on the moon to begin the Space Race.

Free Comic Book Day Reviews Part 2

To continue on with what Gwelch has already posted, here are additional reviews for some of the free issues offered at the upcoming Free Comic Book Day. I was also pleasantly surprised by the quality of the books I read and send out kudos to the publishers for releasing some excellent material this year.

Super Quick Review of Fast Five.

Dumb and ridiculous, but I still found it entertaining. Maybe it was the crowd I saw it with. But if you are in the mood for a dumb heist movie, you could do worse.

Super Quick Portal 2 review.

Portal 2 is the best game of the year so far. Between the hilarious dialog, great game design or level of polish this game has. It is a definite must try, if not a must buy.

P.S. yes Cave Johnson is voiced by J.K. Simmons, and he is my favorite character.

Quick Movie Reviews of Paul & Battle L.A.

Paul is not the best Pegg/Frost film, but it isn't anything to be ashamed of. Sure, not all the jokes hi.t  A lot of the humor is straight references to other sci-fi films. Pegg and Frost are as likable as always. Jason Bateman is surprisingly good as a bad ass man in black. Seth Rogen as the voice of Paul is good as well.  No one is terrible, but I can't help wishing that Edgar Wright directed this.

Battle: Los Angles is not for everyone. It lacks any emotion connection. When people die I could tell who it was. Also the squad is full of war movies clichés. The dialog ranges from OK to just terrible. Aaron Eckhart does his best to sell it. But the one thing movie does quite well is blow sh*t up. Plus in an round about way it kinda give the movie Signs the finger. If you are going to see this movie I suggest a matinée screening or with a nice large TV with a decent sound system.

Gotham City Sirens #20 Comic Review

In this new arc of DC comic’s series Gotham City Sirens the reader encounters the character Harley Quinn breaking into Gotham’s infamous institution, Arkham Asylum to confront the love of her life; The Joker.

This issue ties nicely into the Batman universe, since the Joker has returned and is recapturing the role of not only Batman’s but also Gotham’s most prominent villain.

Super quick Video Game Review: Marvel vs. Capcom 3

Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 is a not quite balance 2d fighter. Every characters feel and play different. Although lack many of the features that it predecessor, Super Street Fighter IV, has it is still an unique and fun game. Online can really be hampered by lag. Overall if you liked Marvel Comics or Capcom characters, MVC3 is definitely worth a shot.

Garth Ennis' Jennier Blood #1 Review

Jennifer Blood is the newest work from writer Garth Ennis, the man behind Preacher. The story is about a house woman who leads a double life. One of her lives, she is a loving house wife with a husband and two kids, but the other life she is the leather clad, gun wielding killer, Jennifer Blood.

When it comes to Ennis’ writing there are pros and cons. The biggest pro is that he can create and write a story like no other, mystifying the reader when the story actually reveals the underlying plot. The one thing that is really detrimental to his writing is the fact that he can sometimes be long winded, his writing becoming the focal point of the comic, no relying as heavily on the art to tell the story. When it comes to Jennifer blood, you see both the pros and cons of his writing, but so far in the first issue they have seemed to pan out.

The art of Adriano Batista took awhile to grow on me. I started reading the comic and thought that his art seemed kind of muted, and dull, but as the story progressed and the transitioned from one part of Jennifer’s life to the other, that is when his art began to shine and he really did a great job conveying the story through his art.

Many readers, when they think Garth Ennis they think violence, blood, and profanity. Readers will be disappointed with the book for about the first 6-8 pages, but after that, the true Ennis shines through and the story becomes both violent and gory not only in the art, but in the writing as well, which is no easy feat whatsoever. But lets face it, this is Garth Ennis we are talking about here.

I was happy to learn that Jennifer Blood is only going to be a mini series because the story as it is right now could really only stand as a mini series and I feel would become old fast if it was stretched to become a ongoing. The story so far is interesting and should prove to become better and better as the issues come out, another thing Ennis is great at is leaving the reader wanting more, is that a pro or a con?

Hot Carl's quick review of The Warrior's Way

First ten to twenty minutes: Cool ninja (kinda) action.
Middle forty to fifty minutes: Boring, unoriginal, killer learns new way of life, plus terrible acting from Kate Bosworth.
Last twenty to thirty minutes: Cool cowboy vs. ninja (kinda) action returns.

Overall, Worth a rental but I definitely wouldn't pay more than manatee price to see this movie.

Dead Rising 2: Case Zero Review

Dead Rising 2: Case Zero is a strange beast. This Xbox 360 prelude, to the upcoming game Dead Rising 2, introduces you to extreme sport athlete Chuck Green and his daughter Katey. They end stranded in a little town of Still Creek as there is a massive zombie out break.  Added to Chuck's frustration is that Katey is infected and needs medication (Zombrex) to keep her from joining the undead.

A must have for Sam Kieth fans. For everyone else I would say it is a 3/5 star book.

Batman: The Widening Gyre #6 Rant/Review

Very brief review of Batman: The Widening Gyre #6: it is trash. Kevin Smith has proven to me that he is not the guy to writea Batman book. The comic reads as if Smith just took one of his Clerks story and put Dante in the cowl. Also the story itself is uninteresting and tired. How many different women has Bruce thought about hanging up the cape for. And if that is not enough, Batman wets himself. Yep, that's right Batman urinates with his tights on. Awesome. Spoiler Alert: A betrayal means nothing if the charters that back stabs the other is a person we care little or nothing about. End of Spoiler. The art has improve since Cacophony, but still ain't great.
My final thought:

F*** this book.
