The Mighty Thor #1 Comic Review

The God of thunder himself is back in his new series by writer Matt Fraction and illustrated once more by comic great Oliver Copiel. Thor clashes with Glactus and the Silver Surfer, as he ascends into Marvel’s cosmic universe. What will this hold for Thor, and how does he expect to handle Glactus, an enemy of epic proportions?

Matt Fraction continues his work on Thor with this new title and new storyline. He balances the gravity of the current situation with the light heartedness of interactions between displaced Asgardians and the residents of Broxton, Oklaholma. The great thing about Fraction starting this title is now Thor fans not only have two great books to enjoy, but two great writers as well as Kieron Gillien takes over Fractions reigns as the writer of the primary Thor title. This provides ample amounts of instances where fans can do a compare and contrast of the writer’s interpretations of the many different characters involved.

Fear Itself: Invincible Iron Man #503 Comic Review

As Fear Itself begins to spread through the Marvel Universe, it invades the pages of the Invincible Iron Man. The series left off last issue with many of the members of Stark Resilient in dire need of help, with Tony cornered by Doc Oc and Pepper, Pim and Tim threatened by Sandman and Electro. Although the issue does not allude to the Fear Itself crossover till towards the end of the issue, it can already be told that the pages of Invincible Iron Man will play an important role in this event.

Journey Into Mystery #622 Comic Review

Fear itself continues as we follow the story of the recently resurrected Loki and his life among the asgardians. Thor himself believes that the young Loki that has been brought back from Hel itself is a malleable mind that can be molded for the better and escape what his pervious self had done, but can Thor convince the rest of asgard of the same?

Journey into Mystery shows Loki’s path to finding himself, learning his god powers all over again and making the decision to become what Thor wants him to be, or to fall onto the path of his former self. As the series continues, readers will see if Loki will team with Thor to eliminate this fear that looms over asgard, or will he soon become part of that which haunts asgard? Only time will tell.

"Oh no. This is Earth, isn't it?"

[originally posted here]

It's finally here, the trailer for Marvel's anticipated Thor, to be released May 6th 2011. Adapted from the pages of Marvel comics, the film begins as "the powerful but arrogant warrior Thor is cast out of the fantastic realm of Asgard and sent to live amongst humans on Earth, where he soon becomes one of their finest defenders." (imdb.com)
A story heavily embedded in Norse mythology, I was initially worried that Thor would prove too tricky a concept to bring to life on the big screen, but - if the trailer is any indication - it appears that cast and crew alike have crafted something truly special. Directed by Kenneth Branagh (Hamlet), Thor stars Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek) as the titular hero, and boasts a superb supporting cast that includes Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Rene Russo, Stellan Skarsgard, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Idris Elba, and Colm Feore. Clark Gregg (Iron Man, Iron Man 2) also returns to the Marvel movie universe as SHIELD agent Phil Coulson.

Thor Shot

Just in case you were wondering what a fit and muscular Philip Seymour Hoffman would look like wearing Thor's costume.

No, but seriously, this is the film's first still shot of Thor in all his costumed glory. Interesting to note that they're not modeling him after the Ultimate universe like they do with EVERY other freakin Marvel flick.

Cornbread's Favorite and Least Favorite Comics of the Week - 3/3

Hey Everyone. It was a pretty small week so it was kinda hard to pick a favorite and least favorite. But here it is

Favorite Comic: New Ultimates #1
*Warning Spoiler Alert*

Its is kinda weird as to why I decided to pick up this comic, its just that I really liked the Variant cover for the issue so I thought I would give it a shot. First off, I would like to state that the art is what made this my favorite comic of the week. Frank Cho, I salute you. In addition, I surprisingly enjoyed the humor that was put into the book by Jeff Loeb (even though they were only funny because Cho's art made them that way). I dont usually like the Ultimate series because of how different the universe is, but this was pretty good and makes me want to give the Ultimate Comics line another chance (which is why I picked up Ultimate X to read later this week). The best part is probably Thor's face half way through the book which if you read this you will know exactly what I am talking about. The cover is kinda ridiculous though, it is a 6 page long pull out "poster" that is just over the top and is folded very strangely which makes it look bad. Anyways, I enjoyed the book, but I am kind of disappointed that it will come out so infrequently.
